It’s that time of year again, that time where we all embark on the search for the perfect evening wear. Ok, we have the obvious, Christmas Holiday around the corner, but before that we have obvious obligatory round of evening functions, work parties, family get togethers, date nights, whatever, this time of year, there’s a lot of reasons to look drop dead gorgeous. Something about the dark and the cold, taking your coat off and making a dramatic impact from the sheer overall impression of what you’re wearing. It’s time. When it’s cold, when it’s dark, we bring the drama in a way you just cannot do in the beautiful sunshine. This is the season to really work your magic.
From earlier this year we already had the growing inclusion of lounge-wear, nightwear as outwear, pyjama fashion. This hasn’t gone away it’s still a thing, in fact, very much so. Consider the dramatic impact of this season as just taking that whole concept a little further and translating the vibe, the feel, literally, into an actual evening outfit.
What you need to think about when it comes to your wardrobe this season is clothes that look good enough to touch. It’s all about that comfort factor, but no, not in a slouchy jogging bottoms kind of way, but in the sensuous, slinky, comforting, pleasurable, warm, light feel of being enveloped in something that evokes a feeling of physical pleasure…think tactile. these are the kind of clothes if you were walking through a store you would automatically reach out and feel, broke, rub between your fingers almost subconsciously, because in your mind, without thinking, you want to know more about how they feel, than just look.
Think Satin, Silk, Velvet. In fact think so much about velvet for this winter because it is all of the adjectives used above as well as warm and comforting. Your clothes feel so good, you want to keep stroking them yourself when you’re looking at them, when you’re wearing them, it’s truly about loving the clothes you’re in.
I know, you just want to see the clothes already I get it. Bear in mind, in some of my recent posts I’ve looked at a couple of Celebrity lines, these included some great examples of clothes that just say, ‘Touch Me’, in my recent ‘Going In” features on Millie Mackintosh and Alesha Dixon for Little Black dress, bothe ranges in particular had some very sensuous looking (in terms of texture) wrap style dresses I just wanted to buy to feel them on. They are simple in design, elegant and in very accentuating, not loud but subtle shades, that power is all in the texture of the material and the play with light and shade and shape.
We are very lucky in that the high street and it’s online counterparts present us with stylish evening wear choices high on fashion and quality and all price points, there is no excuse Cinderella, find a ball, get kitted out and go!
